Watch out, workplace — Gen Z is here, and you’re going to need better meeting room booking software…

We’ve come to know our Millennial colleagues very well recently — they’re the Eighties-born kids who really live life digitally. Millennials want absolutely everything in their lives — including the place they do their work — to be connected. But having an ‘always-on’ attitude has been shown to bring pressures in its wake, creating stress and even anxiety if not managed properly. It’s definitely a concern that the same things will affect  Generation Z , the new kids making their arrival on the block, even more. These talented young people, who were born between the mid-90s and early 2000s, actually comprise nearly 30 per cent of the planet’s population. Like the Millennials, they expect a great work/life balance, but they can happy be persuaded to stay in your company long term if you can make your workplace somewhere they actually want to be. Forbes  reports: “ Having grown up in a tumultuous time for economics and politics (they were only four when 9/11 occurred,...

But there’s one other element that makes the office like a venue: You book a place before you arrive. After all, you would never just turn up at a gig hoping you could get in. Wandering around looking for somewhere to sit? That’s not very rock ‘n roll. It doesn’t rock the new workplace, either. In recen...

Humans v the robots – who’ll win in the AI workplace?

Is your working life being controlled by a robot? Or are the bots simply making your job a lot less tedious? It’s becoming the big question of today’s workplace – and a topic that’s going to continue to get hotter as Artificial Intelligence (AI) works its machine fingers further and further into every nook and cranny of our lives. Sometimes, the results of AI in the workplace can verge on disturbing. Some pickers at Amazon’s giant warehouses complain that that monitoring technology forces them to work at a relentless pace – and that the machines also provide the ticking-off if they don’t keep up. But elsewhere, human beings are finding that robot functions are taking the strain of mundane and repetitive tasks away from them, allowing them to spend their valuable time on more rewarding work. We can’t even begin to say how far AI and automation will change our working lives. Forecasts say that some jobs will be completely replaced –  bookkeeping and telemarketing ...
